The Science Behind Confidence & Hypnosis

A randomized controlled trial at Bond University found that a group intervention combining self-hypnosis and self-care significantly improved self-esteem and reduced emotional distress in participants. The study showed that increased mindfulness from hypnosis explained 33% of the self-esteem improvement and 42% of the reduction in emotional distress.

Research on hypnosis and performance found that hypnotic suggestion directly improved self-efficacy—the belief in your own ability to succeed. In a controlled study, participants receiving hypnosis performed significantly better than the control group, with improvements maintained at the 4-week follow-up. The researchers concluded that hypnosis restructures the cognitive processes essential for confidence, attention, and achievement.

A pilot study on Hypnotic Relaxation Therapy for Well-Being found that 71% of participants who completed the intervention were categorized as “flourishing”—experiencing high levels of well-being and positive affect. The intervention was simple: guided self-hypnosis sessions combined with daily home practice using audio recordings.
